Would you like to be a part of inspiring our Youth and Future Community Leaders?
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
The PCW Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce in partnership with the Youth Leadership Student Team, Port Colborne High School we will assist in the delivery of a one day leadership conference at the high school for the entire student body.
Event Date: Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 to best fit the PCHS calendar year of student activities and exam schedule
Background: (in the words of our student leaders)
Sephra Ruston and Austin Stastny, two Port Colborne High School students, both had the opportunity to represent PCHS and attend the Central Ontario Leadership Seminars (COLS), at the University of Toronto, Mississauga campus. Students who attend these seminars learn valuable leadership skills that they can take home with them to implement in their communities.
Motivational speakers Blake Fly, and Sunjay Nath spoke to the students who participated in this event regarding leadership skills and how they can have a tremendous impact in their home communities, and even outside of there communities. Students were taught that by taking initiative and taking their first steps great things can be accomplished that would leave a positive impact in their communities.
Austin and Sephra took the initiative and contacted the PCW Chamber to see if we would help them raise the funds needed to bring these powerful speakers to PCHS so the entire student population could benefit from their wisdom.
We said YES! One of our main objectives as a Chamber and South Niagara organization is to promote, develop and encourage! The full event budget including both speakers, travel etc. will cost just under $4000.00, and we require further help with this local initiative. Students will be conducting fundraising activities during the school year but more support is required.
We are asking interested Chamber members who want to support and inspire youth leadership by contributing financially to the sponsorship of this event. All sponsors will receive complimentary tickets to attend and your name / logo will be showcased and displayed on all promotional materials.
Please call Chamber Executive Director Jackie Jaroslawski (905.834.9765) for more details or to pledge your donation.
