The Role of the Port Colborne-Wainfleet Chamber of Commerce
For over 111 years, the Port Colborne – Wainfleet Chamber of Commerce has been serving our business communities.
Founded in 1902 and incorporated in 1930 under the Boards of Trade Act, the Chamber is a not-for-profit-organization that exists to promote and enhance each of our communities through business, social, cultural and educational commitment and to serve as an advocate for our members.
The Port Colborne-Wainfleet Chamber of Commerce is proud to offer many services to benefit our members, including:
Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance
This program is available to member firms and their employees, regardless of size. It includes Group Term Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Dependant Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, Major Medical (Prescription Drugs, Paramedical, Semi-Private Hospital and Outside Canada Coverage) and Dental.
Referral calls from newcomers, travelers and citizens are passed on to our members each month. It is our policy to support those businesses that support our organization.
Better Business Service
We accept consumer complaints about our members and attempt to act as mediators in order to secure members’ reputations and avoid costly legal bills.
Our Quarterly Newsletter is sent to all chamber members in Port Colborne and Wainfleet as well as being posted on the Chamber website. It keeps the membership informed as to what is going on at the Chamber and in the local communities. Advertising is available.
Each month the Chamber of Commerce Communications Committee meets to choose the recipient of the Business of the Month Award. Choosing the winner is based not only on their business know–how but also on their contributions to the community and the Chamber. It gives the Chamber an opportunity to recognize the hard working business people in the community. In addition, we host an annual awards reception. “The President’s Awards” honour not only outstanding business people but also local volunteers and our youth! The President’s Awards have become one of our signature events.
Through various Chamber events, local business people have the opportunity to meet each other and exchange information and business cards. One on one promotion is by far the best means of advertising. Members are encouraged to bring their staff to all our functions. Business After 5:00 networking events are scheduled monthly and a number of fun activities are planned.
Our Chamber’s Quarterly Breakfast Series and a number of other forums are used to disseminate up- to- date information on important issues. Keeping our membership well informed makes for a healthier business environment.
Certificate of Origin
The Executive Director of the Chamber can authorize a Certificate of Origin for exporting purposes.
We provide membership with discounted Visa and MasterCard Merchant rates. In addition, we encourage member-to-member discounts.
Throughout the year, we host many fund-raising special events. Some of these include: Lobsters and Laughs, another signature event which is a great evening of networking and enjoyment; an annual golf tournament; meet the Reps BBQ, a great opportunity to meet with local politicians; and Small Business Week Celebration; an event where we share the success stories of Port Colborne and Wainfleet businesses.
